Five amazing seasons, one remarkable adventure! The Grand Hacienda on Abiquiú Lake marks a significant achievement, starting its journey shortly before the pandemic hit. With determination and creativity, we have adapted and are now flourishing in the fifth season. Here's to crafting additional unforgettable experiences for our visitors – and creating many more!
The beginning of this season has been truly wonderful. Within the initial two months, we have welcomed incredible visitors from various parts of the globe, such as England, the Netherlands, and within the US (Massachusetts, Maine, New Mexico, Florida, Texas, Arizona, California, and West Virginia!). This showcases the charm of Abiquiú and Abiquiú Lake, as well as the remarkable memories made here at The Grand Hacienda.
We want to express our immense gratitude to everyone who has been involved in this amazing journey for the past five years. However, get ready for some thrilling news coming up for this season and beyond!
BUT FIRST, MANY OF YOU ASKED WHAT WE WERE UP TO THIS OFF-SEASON.
Just like we did last year, we spent the off-season exploring, learning, relaxing, and recharging! Now, we've been hard at work creating the experiences for our fifth season.
Culinary Immersion
Immersed in the realm of genuine Mexican gastronomy in Zihuatanejo, Mexico, we delved deep into the culinary culture alongside our companions John and Harry. Exploring lively local markets and honing our skills in preparing traditional dishes with fresh, regional ingredients, we are introducing a range of thrilling new flavors to The Grand Hacienda! Prepare to treat your palate to the authentic essence of Mexico.
Power of Plant-Based Power
While in Houston, we discovered the delightful realm of plant-based food. We learned about the seven guidelines for making nutritious and satisfying dishes with fresh, seasonal whole ingredients. Our cooking involved utilizing grains, legumes, vegetables, beans, seeds, tofu, seitan, and tempeh. We also explored the use of food for promoting healing and longevity. Anticipate inventive recipes highlighting a variety of grains, legumes, and vegetables. We are enthusiastic about demonstrating how plant-based cuisine can be flavorful and wholesome.
Living Your Best Life
When it comes to well-being, we prioritize your health and happiness here at The Grand Hacienda. Drawing inspiration from our own dedication to healthy living and longevity, we are integrating insights from preventive practices into your stay. Experience walking barefoot on our grounded floors, basking in the early morning sun on your private terrace, relaxing in the hot tub, and staying in a room with minimal EMFs. Leave your yoga mats and blocks at home - we have everything you need. Whether you are a seasoned wellness enthusiast or just embarking on your journey, we offer various opportunities to nourish your mind, body, and spirit.
During our break, we found a newfound love for pickleball...it's safe to say we are completely hooked. Despite some minor mishaps like running into walls, getting whacked by a ball, or pulling a muscle, we couldn't stay away from the court. Though we can't enjoy pickleball in Abiquiu, we are infusing that same energetic vibe into The Grand Hacienda with bocce ball and Jenga tournaments.
Beyond the Ordinary
Life is precious, and we were blessed with the arrival of our first grandchild, William James! We also squeezed in cultural adventures, and live theater, caught iconic artists like Madonna and the Rolling Stones, and cheered on the Houston Astros.

For those of you who have been eager to experience the winter magic of Abiquiú Lake, we are delighted to announce that we will now be open year-round (362 days to be precise)! Immerse yourself in the tranquility of a snowy landscape and starry skies, creating unforgettable memories. Unwind by your personal chiminea fire pot on chilly evenings, following a soak in the hot tub beneath the twinkling stars. Extended Check-Out Time
Your feedback has been taken into consideration! The check-out time has been extended to 11:00 am, allowing you to enjoy unhurried breakfast chats and pack your belongings comfortably. While this adjustment might impact early check-in options, we are confident it will offer a more laid-back departure experience for the majority of our guests.
Enhanced Suites
Based on your feedback, we've transformed the Rio Chama Suite with a cozy seating area for two. O'Keeffe Suite guests will enjoy a new bench for luggage or lounging and a larger chair for added comfort.
Eco-Lodging
For those who value sustainability and the preservation of nature, eco-tourism is a crucial trend in the travel sector. Our approach is centered on minimizing our environmental impact by focusing on practices like water conservation, solar energy utilization, and cultivating our herbs and vegetables in our greenhouse. Our commitment extends to using dirt roads instead of blacktop, heating our floors with greenhouse-derived heat, and employing copper grounding for earthing principles. We built the property with shielding to reduce electromagnetic fields. We prioritize sourcing organic produce from local farmers and markets and giving back to our community. While we may not be the most budget-friendly option available, staying with us contributes to the protection of our environment, lands, farmers, and communities.

Currently, they are wrapping up an adventure that led them to Sweden, back to where Jessica was born. There, they embarked on an unforgettable chapter of their lives, working at a castle hotel, immersed in centuries of history. Santa Rosa de Lima Fiesta (August 24th): Immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of Abiquiú as the community celebrates its patron saint. Witness a traditional Catholic mass at the historic chapel ruins, followed by a vibrant procession and festivities with music, food, and a warm community atmosphere.
Abiquiú Fiesta for St. Thomas (November 16th): Travel back in time and experience the vibrant St. Thomas Feast Day celebration. Immerse yourself in the culture with traditional dances, music, and delicious food as the community honors its rich Indigenous heritage.
